Sunshine, Rain, and the Growth of the Soul
The Arabs have an interesting proverb, which says, "to have sunshine and only sunshine, is to have a desert." This is a parable of life. Both sun and rain are essential in the making of a flower and this is true of human experience. Joy and sadness, blessing and trial, are necessary, for the development of the soul. This is why Paul said, "in everything give thanks." If only we could catch a glimpse of the glorious purposes that God has for each of our lives, we would gladly accept the circumstances of life - be they gloomy or golden, perplexing or pleasing - without resentment or bitterness.
“When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10.
“In everything give thanks.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
